Promise Keeper

“But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.” Genesis 6:18 ESV

Reflection

As a child, I used to love the idea of making pacts with my buddies. Pacts to always watch each other’s back. Pacts to always live in the same city or support the same sports team. Pacts are a way of confirming that both parties are on the same page and in total agreement. Pacts require trust, the bedrock of any healthy relationship and trust is built over time with a display of consistency of action and word. We have faith in those who keep their word and are skeptical of those who do not. A broken promise or pact can have a devastating effect on any relationship.

Application

In the sixth chapter of Genesis, the Lord established His covenant with Noah (Genesis 6:18) and instructed Noah to build an Ark that would save Noah, his family, and a pair of all animals on earth from the flood and pending destruction. One can only imagine the ridicule Noah received when he began constructing a structure no one had ever seen before for a weather event of a magnitude no one could have ever imagined. Yet, by faith, he continued.

Noah trusted the Lord because He knew the Lord. “Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6:9. He knew God’s character, and because of his relationship with the Lord, he trusted God’s plan, and God delivered. (Gen 8:1-22)

Our God is trustworthy. He is a God who keeps His word, and His word is true. Because of the consistency of His character, we can place our complete trust and faith in Him.

Prayer

Lord, give me the faith to trust you with all that I am and all that I have. Help me to walk closer with you each day, explore the depth of your character and know that because of who You are, you will never break Your promises to me. You will never fail me. Thank you, Lord, for your steadfast love and trustworthiness. Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Brad
