Christmas Magic
I have a confession to make! Every Saturday morning for the last three months, I have left the house at around 6:30 am, driven down to the local Starbucks, and ordered a sugar-free oat milk vanilla latte. It has become a ritual and my way of kicking off the weekend. This Christmas Eve was no exception.
After venturing out and making small talk with the usual barista, I proceeded to head back home with my caffeinated treasure in hand. As I drove, I listened to a news report titled “The Magic of Christmas,” in which the reporter declared, “there is no greater example of Christmas magic than Santa Clause.” Santa Clause, eh, I thought to myself! It was a stark reminder that so much of our society has missed the true meaning of Christmas. Admittedly, I am often guilty of it as well. Between wrapping up work responsibilities and preparing for the holidays, somehow, we tend to lose sight of what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is about a God, who loved His creation so much, that He sent His only son Jesus Christ, to dwell amongst humankind, to eat and drink with us, to laugh and cry with us, to guide and to teach us, and ultimately, to die in our place on the cross for our sins. Most, if not all, of the world’s religions, involve man seeking God. The Christmas story is about God seeking man. I dare to say there is no magic in the Christmas story, only love.
Prayer
Lord, forgive us for getting lost in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. This Christmas, we ask that you center our hearts and minds on you. We are grateful for your love, mercy, and grace. We exalt you.
I ask these things in Jesus’s name, Amen.
